    Since scarring is usually present, more meticulous work may be needed to avoid nerve injury and to reposition tissues to achieve a natural, aesthetically pleasing outcome. Dr. Tansavatdi often uses a deep-plane technique for revision procedures, as it reduces tension on the skin and allows for better correction of skin irregularities. After the revision facelift surgery, bandages and dressings will be applied to help with swelling and healing.

    Preparing for a Revision Facelift

    Before your revision facelift, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Dr. Tansavatdi will prescribe vitamins known to reduce bruising and swelling, and you will start them three days before surgery. Dr. Tansavatdi will also request that you do not eat or drink anything at least 12 hours beforehand. In addition, avoid smoking or using nicotine products, as this may result in additional scarring after surgery. Dr. Tansavatdi may prescribe a topical retinoid product for you to use before surgery to help speed your recovery. Oftentimes, starting hyperbaric oxygen therapy before surgery can aid the healing process, and Dr. Tansavatdi may prescribe it as well.

    Recovery From a Revision Facelift

    The recovery process for a revision facelift is similar to that of a regular facelift, though swelling with the second facelift usually takes a bit longer to resolve due to the scar tissue. Patients can expect to rest and be out of commission for about two weeks. 

    You may experience swelling, discomfort, and soreness for several days after surgery. These side effects are common and fade fairly quickly. Dr. Tansavatdi may prescribe medication to help with any discomfort during recovery, and she will also provide you with detailed post-op instructions for showering, sleeping, exercising, and returning to normal activities. It’s very important that you have follow-up appointments with Dr. Tansavatdi so she can track your progress and ensure your recovery is progressing properly.

    I was impressed from the first visit. She took time to understand my goals and reasons for wanting to change my face (I had just turned 60 and had been developing jowls which bothered me). I told her I wanted it to look natural, and not fake like some movie stars or people my age trying to look 30. She understood, showed me example photos, and suggested I have a deep plane face lift and also consider getting fat injected under my eyes. I had noticed for many years that I had hollows under my eyes, but I didn't know you could do anything about it. I decided to do both. She then clearly explained what I could expect from the surgery and what it would and would not fix.

    Throughout the process, I felt I was in good hands, which was important because after all, it's my face! She and her staff were very professional and gave me detailed daily instructions about what to do, eat, and pills to take in the weeks before and the month after the surgery. She had videos I could watch so I knew exactly what to expect. She had several follow up visits with me to make sure I was doing well. The areas under my eyes were bruised and puffy for a while, so she injected them with something and zapped them with a laser (no extra charge) to speed up healing.

    Now it's 4 months after the surgery, and I am so happy with the results! I no longer have jowls, and I'm so glad I took her advice about the hollows under my eyes because my face looks much younger and healthier with those gone.
